Facial Reflexology (Sorensensistem™)
Facial Reflexology Sorensensistem™ is a relatively new type of holistic reflexology treatment carried out on the face; the client is fully clothed and lies on a treatment couch. It was invented, researched and developed by Lone Sorensen. Treatments are now available in 22 countries worldwide by over 5500 practitioners.
What is Facial Reflexology and the Sorensensistem?
"Reflex therapy can be defined as a reflex technique base on the neuro-biochemical action that is caused by stimulating an area or a point, and which has both a general and /or partial effect in the entire organism."
Lone SorensenFacial Reflexology Sorensensistem™ is a complementary holistic therapy combining body maps on the face which Lone Sorensen learnt from the South American Mapuche Indians, together with Chinese and Vietnamese Body Maps, Acupuncture & Acupressure Points, Oriental Energy Meridians, Western Reflexology and Zone Therapy. In essence this therapy is a combination of the wisdom of ancient medical traditions with modern neuro-anatomy to help improve the underlying imbalances which often manifest in our bodies in the form of physical, mental and/or emotional problems. It works in a way similar to foot reflexology by stimulating nerve points relating to organs and gentle massage which helps bring the body’s Chi (energy) back into alignment and balance.
Most people find Facial Reflexology Sorensensistem™ beneficial for deep relaxation as each treatment can release endorphins that promote and calm the mind thus inducing a deep state of relaxation helping to relieve many of the symptoms of stress and fatigue. By coincidence, this technique appears to have a rejuvenating and uplifting effect on Client’s faces as the blood is stimulated and lymphatic drainage helps to give them a naturally glowing complexion. Facial reflexology is a safe and gentle holistic treatment that is suitable for women and men of all ages and physical conditions.
What does Facial Reflexology Involve?
A course of treatments is advised and benefits often continue for some days after the treatment. Appointments take approximately 1 hour, the first of which includes a brief outline of the treatment and the client's confidential health history information. The client is fully clothed and lies on a treatment couch. Clients are recommended not to wear cosmetics as the treatment uses either an aromatherapy face massage cream or natural oil for the stimulation of specific points and zones on the face.
Facial Reflexology Sorensensistem™ is a natural complete holistic complementary therapy. However, it can also be used by the practitioner in combination with foot and hand reflexology for additional Chi (energy) support when working on stomach and the digestive system reflexology zones in a technique known as the "Sorensensistem™ intestinal link balances"
I use this form of Facial Reflexology in a luxury combination therapy of 45 minutes foot reflexology & 45 minutes Facial Reflexology Sorensensistem™ - described by some clients as "total bliss relaxation"
In my experience these treatments help clients quickly achieve a really good and deep relaxation in every session. It often gives them a sense of improved wellbeing, this I find seems to help them cope better with stress, worries and depression or constant health problems.
Here in Cornwall UK, my reflexology practice is promoting Facial Reflexology Sorensensistem™ as a specialist reflexology therapy at the Merlin Project, Cornwall's multiple sclerosis centre www.merlinproject.org.uk. I also have private therapy work at one of Cornwall's most famous hotels and in this situation I find that it is an ideal first time relaxation therapy for the guests as it may also have the added benefit of providing a natural rejuvenation (lifting) affect on the face giving clients softer skin complexions.
Finally, just to assure clean shaven men Facial Reflexology Sorensensistem™ is an ideal natural face therapy for men - there are no messy products, I just use a natural rose oil which is absorbed by the skin during the treatment.
